U.S. Route 45 Bypass (US 45 Byp.), also designated as State Route 186 (SR 186), is a roughly 10-mile, four-lane expressway skirting the western side of Jackson, Tennessee. It begins at the junction of US 45/US 70 on the city’s south side and quickly turns north, offering connections to Hollywood Drive, Old Hickory Boulevard, and a full interchange with Interstate 40. This bypass was designed to relieve traffic congestion through central Jackson, providing an efficient alternative for through traffic.
Continuing north beyond key commercial and residential corridors like North Highland Avenue and Vann Drive, the bypass crosses the Middle Fork of the Forked Deer River. It culminates just outside the northern city limits of Jackson at the interchange with mainline US 45/SR 5, where SR 186 shifts onto US 45 as it heads toward Three Way and the subsequent split into US 45W and US 45E. Through this strategic routing, US 45 Bypass not only diverts regional traffic around downtown but also seamlessly links with the broader US 45 network
