Texas Highway 366: Dallas – Eastbound

If you’re looking for a quick urban freeway run with plenty of cityscape views, Texas Highway 366—better known to locals as the Woodall Rodgers Freeway—serves up two action-packed miles through the heart of Dallas. We start our eastbound journey at the busy interchange with Interstate 35E, just northwest of the city’s core. This is the kind of route where you blink and you’re downtown, so keep your eyes peeled for those skyline views right after you hop on!

Merging onto TX-366 from I-35E, we almost immediately get an impressive look at the Dallas skyline rising to our right. The freeway’s elevated design here makes for an iconic view, especially as you cross above the Trinity River floodplain and dive into the urban tangle of Dallas proper. If you’re a fan of cityscapes, it’s one of the better vantage points you’ll find on the move in Dallas, with the Reunion Tower and Bank of America Plaza dominating the scene.

As we swing east, the freeway hugs the north side of downtown Dallas, threading its way between high-rises and major city landmarks. One highlight you can’t miss is passing beneath Klyde Warren Park. This unique urban park actually sits on top of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway itself—a 5.2-acre green space connecting uptown and downtown. Even though we’re technically driving in a tunnel for a block or two, it’s worth knowing you’re rolling under one of Dallas’s most popular parks, where folks above might be walking dogs, lounging in the sun, or catching a food truck lunch.

After clearing the Klyde Warren “tunnel,” we continue a short distance before approaching the major interchange with U.S. Highway 75 (Central Expressway) and Interstate 345. This is where TX-366 wraps up its brief but vital run. Eastbound drivers can branch off here—north toward the suburbs on US-75 or south toward Deep Ellum, Fair Park, and eventually Houston on I-45. The area immediately around the eastern end of TX-366 is bustling with attractions: the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, and the lively Arts District are all a stone’s throw away. If you’re a foodie, both Uptown and Deep Ellum have you covered with local eats just off the freeway.

In just two miles, Texas Highway 366 packs in big city views, a showcase urban park, and quick access to some of Dallas’s top spots—all while keeping you on the move above (and sometimes beneath) the city’s vibrant core. Whether you’re headed to work, a night out, or just passing through, this stretch offers a quintessential slice of Dallas freeway driving.
