Interstate 75: Miamisburg to Dayton – Ohio

If you’re looking for a classic Ohio interstate experience, this stretch of Interstate 75 from Miamisburg up to Dayton delivers a bit of everything: suburban expansion, industrial roots, riverside scenery, and a true “big city” arrival as you cruise into the heart of Dayton. Whether you’re a daily commuter, road tripper, or just love seeing how the Midwest connects, this 16-mile northbound run is a perfect snapshot of southwest Ohio.

We kick things off by merging onto I-75 from I-675, right on the southern edge of Miamisburg. Immediately, you’ll notice how the highway carves through a mix of growing suburbs and industrial corridors. As we leave Miamisburg, we pass the interchange for OH-725—a main local route lined with shopping centers, restaurants, and quick pit stops for anyone in need of coffee or snacks before heading north.

Rolling into West Carrollton, I-75 crosses a region known for its historic ties to manufacturing, particularly in the days when the Miami-Erie Canal ran nearby. Not far up the road is the interchange with Dixie Drive—the old Dixie Highway, which, fun fact, is a former alignment of US-25. This historic corridor once stretched from Michigan to Florida and helped shape the region’s economic growth, long before the interstate era.

Continuing north, the highway enters Moraine, another city with deep industrial roots. Here, the landscape opens up for a brief moment as you approach the crossing of OH-741, where you’ll spot factories and the Miami River flowing alongside the highway. Moraine is also home to the famous Moraine Airpark, a small, active airfield that sometimes features vintage aircraft visible from the highway.

Soon, the cityscape starts to close in as you approach Dayton proper. The “spaghetti junction” with US-35 is a classic Midwest interchange—multiple lanes, ramps weaving above and below, and the sense that you’re entering a true urban core. The highway curves around the west and north sides of downtown Dayton, offering fleeting glimpses of the city skyline, especially if you look east as you skirt the edge of downtown. Sports fans might spot the lights of Day Air Ballpark, home to the Dayton Dragons minor league team, just off the freeway.

After passing through the city, I-75 meets the interchange for Ohio Route 4, a route that heads northeast toward Riverside and the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force—one of the area’s top attractions if you’re in town for more than just the drive. As we leave the city behind, I-75 transitions back into a suburban corridor, with several smaller local interchanges serving neighborhoods and industrial parks on Dayton’s north side.

Our route ends at the exit for Wyse Road, but if you keep going north, you’re on your way toward more of Ohio’s heartland, with connections to places like Troy, Piqua, and eventually Toledo. But for this drive, we’ve just experienced a classic slice of Ohio’s I-75—packed with local flavor, a little history, and a true feel for the region’s rhythm.
