Interstate 35E: Northbound in Dallas – Texas

Take a fast-paced cruise through the heart of the Big D as we ride north on Interstate 35E for a short but intense mile between TX-366 (Woodall Rodgers Freeway) and the split for the Dallas North Tollway. While brief in distance, this segment of freeway packs in a dynamic view of Dallas’ urban core and showcases the constant churn of motion that defines life in Texas’ third-largest city.

Our journey begins just north of downtown Dallas as we merge onto Interstate 35E from TX-366. Immediately, the urban skyline rises to our right—the shimmering glass towers and historic red brick structures framing the Trinity River corridor. On this stretch, the elevated lanes of the highway offer a commanding view of the city’s bustling infrastructure below. To the west, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge’s iconic white arch peeks through the maze of steel and concrete, tying together downtown and the emerging Trinity Groves district. Traffic here is relentless, fed by major arteries like Riverfront Boulevard and Continental Avenue, all weaving through Dallas’ revitalized core.

As we pass under the overpasses of Victory Avenue and emerge near Oak Lawn Avenue, the exit for the Dallas North Tollway comes quickly into view on the right. This interchange marks the gateway to some of the city’s most affluent northern neighborhoods—Uptown, Highland Park, and beyond. The tollway, a major north–south corridor, serves as a direct link from downtown Dallas to Plano and Frisco. Just beyond the exit ramp, I-35E presses northward toward Love Field and the city of Farmers Branch. But for our short ride, this junction is our finale—an intersection of commerce, commute, and concrete that exemplifies urban Texas travel.

This mile of highway might seem fleeting, but it delivers a powerful sense of place. It encapsulates the ever-evolving rhythm of Dallas, where highways don’t just move traffic—they shape the city itself. Whether you’re navigating daily rush hour, chasing skyline views, or launching a journey deeper into Texas, this stretch of I-35E is unmistakably Dallas.
