Arkansas Highway 10: Hackett to Oklahoma

Let’s hit the road for a quick but interesting jaunt west along Arkansas Highway 10, covering the short 1.5-mile stretch from Hackett right up to the Oklahoma state line. This segment may be brief, but it still offers a snapshot of western Arkansas’s small-town charm and rolling countryside as we cross from one state into another.

Starting in Hackett, a quaint community in Sebastian County, we find ourselves at the junction of AR-10 and the combined AR-45. Once we turn west onto AR-10, it doesn’t take long before the town gives way to a more rural setting. The surroundings quickly transition to a mix of modest homes on spacious lots, open pastures, and scattered clusters of trees typical of this corner of the Arkansas River Valley. Even in such a short distance, there’s a sense of calm and open space that feels distinctly ‘Arkansas’.

As we continue west, the road gently rolls through a quiet landscape dotted with a few barns and the occasional family farm. Local traffic is usually light here, making it an easy, relaxed drive to the Oklahoma border. Just before crossing into Oklahoma, you might catch glimpses of larger farm fields stretching to the horizon — a subtle hint that we’re transitioning into eastern Oklahoma’s agricultural belt. Once you pass the welcome sign for Oklahoma, AR-10 becomes OK-120, leading travelers further into Le Flore County and connecting to other rural routes that weave through Oklahoma’s scenic countryside.
